JVCKENWOOD innovates European service portal with Oracle Visual Builder

How an outdated system was replaced with a future-proof solution that accelerates innovation and eliminates customization concerns.

Customer: JVCKENWOOD Europe

JVCKENWOOD is a leading international supplier of professional communication and security systems and consumer electronics. For the European arm of the organization, a stable and accessible service portal is crucial. Every day, more than 250 service partners across Europe use the portal to place orders, submit claims and access information.

The challenge: from obsolete to future-proof

JVCKENWOOD's existing European service portal ran on AS/400 technology, a system that was reaching its expiration date and was being phased out worldwide. The urgency was great: "We had to have everything migrated by May 2025. Because we consciously chose a certain approach, we could no longer maintain the old system otherwise,' says Hans Bos, General ICT Manager at JVCKENWOOD. 'That gave urgency, but also focus'.

A logical next step was to investigate whether the service portal could be built in the Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne standard. Cost-wise, this turned out not to be feasible. Other options were also explored, but not deemed suitable. Forza brought attention to Oracle Visual Builder, a low-code/no-code platform within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

"It's not about complexity, it's about simplicity and effectiveness for the user," says Hans. "What a partner wants is simple: not having to keep calling or emailing about an order status. You want an accessible system that just works."

The solution: Oracle Visual Builder

The solution: Oracle Visual Builder

JVCKENWOOD chose Oracle Visual Builder as its front-end solution on strategic advice from Forza, where Business Development Manager Peter Verschoor played a key role. This cloud-based low-code/no-code platform enables rapid development of modern Web and mobile applications without complex development processes. The choice was both technically logical and strategically smart:

  • No license per user: pay based on usage
  • Fully customizable: including branding and user roles
  • Seamless integration with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne via REST APIs and JSON

"The beauty is that you develop a user interface while all the data and maintenance just stays in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne," Hans said.

A collaboration that goes beyond implementation

Forza acted not only as an implementation partner, but as a strategic guide. Collaboration, knowledge sharing and flexibility were key. Three JVCKENWOOD employees were trained by Forza in Visual Builder, so that the international project (Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands) was truly carried out together.

"We could constantly shift gears: do we do it ourselves, or ask Forza to develop it? That flexibility is worth its weight in gold."

ERP+ expert Peter Verhoeven played a key role in both the technical set-up and transfer of knowledge. His in-depth knowledge of the JD Edwards environment ensured speed and continuity.

"Peter knows our JD Edwards environment inside out. That makes a huge difference: you don't have to do the story over and over again." - Hans Bos

The result: simplicity, stability and scalability

The new portal enables service partners to:

  • Spare parts to order
  • Warranty claims to be filed and tracked
  • Consult the status of orders

"Our partners log in daily. The system is stable, user-friendly and fits our processes perfectly."

Internally, the impact is also significant: fewer manual operations, better control and a future-proof architecture.

Future vision: from portal to platform

The service portal was built with growth in mind. New applications can be added fairly easily in the future. Progressive Web Applications for Desktop/Tablet/Mobile applications are among the possibilities for further development.

In addition, JD Edwards Orchestrator offers options to further automate processes. "We want to apply that much more to work more efficiently in Europe," Hans said.

With the upcoming migration to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), JVCKENWOOD is also taking an important step toward a stable, scalable and future-proof digital architecture.

This project illustrates how low-code/no-code technology enables companies to innovate faster, rely less on customization and extend their ERP environment with smart, flexible solutions.

Why JVCKENWOOD chooses Forza

  • Partnership with focus on knowledge sharing and flexibility
  • In-depth expertise: from backend to user interface
  •  Building sustainable solutions together, with a grip on costs and knowledge

"I would definitely recommend Forza. The combination of flexibility, knowledge and partnership makes all the difference."
